HLI Congratulates Retiring Prelate; Reiterates Call for Clarification from Vatican

HLI Congratulates Retiring Prelate; Reiterates Call for Clarification from Vatican

FRONT ROYAL, VA, July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Father Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International (HLI), today lauded Archbishop Jose Cardoso Sobrinho of Olinda and Recife, Brazil as a "pro-life hero." Archbishop Cardoso's retirement was approved by Pope Benedict XVI on July 1, 2009.

"Archbishop Cardoso is to be congratulated for his stalwart charity and courage under very trying circumstances," said Fr. Euteneuer. "His heroic stand for life, taken near the end of his official service to the Church, is a fitting capstone to a career replete with Christ-like love and self-sacrifice."

Critics from the media, the political arena, and even from within the Catholic Church attacked Archbishop Cardoso for his declaration of excommunication of those who performed an abortion on a nine-year-old girl who had been raped by her stepfather. In particular, an editorial by Archbishop Salvatore Fisichella in L'Osservatore Romano was seen as especially damaging both to Archbishop Cardoso and to the pro-life movement, due to its factual and doctrinal errors.

"The facts of the case are known, and Archbishop Cardoso did exactly what he should have done as a loving shepherd of the souls in his charge," said Fr. Euteneuer. "We don't expect accuracy or fairness from politicians and the media, but for this hero to endure the unjust persecution of his brother bishop is unconscionable."

Pointing out that the eminent theologian and demographer Fr. Michael Schooyans has called on the Vatican to correct Fisichella's unjust criticism of the Brazilian prelate, Fr. Euteneuer reiterated the gravity of that is at stake in this matter.

Fr. Euteneuer said, "The heroic Archbishop Cardoso is at the center of a huge battle for the purity of our teaching and discipline on life issues." Reiterating the call of Fr. Schooyans that the Vatican clarify the unjust criticism of Archbishop Fisichella and assure the faithful that there has been no change in a teaching that can never change, Fr. Euteneuer added, "Pro- lifers deserve a clarification that abortion is never permitted under any circumstances, and a statement of support that their efforts are not in vain!"

Churches At-Risk: Mid-Year Crime Report Highlights Loss of Life and Property

Churches At-Risk: Mid-Year Crime Report Highlights Loss of Life and Property

Christian Churches Impacted by Six Homicides and More Than $6.3 Million in Property Loss in the First Six Months of 2009

CINCINNATI, Ohio, July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- According to "Crimes Against Christian Organizations in the United States," a new report released by the Christian Security Network, of the 17 violent crimes reported by Christian churches thus far in 2009, six resulted in homicides. Additionally, churches lost more than $6.3 million in property loss due to burglary, theft, robbery, arson and vandalism.

2009 marks the first year the Christian Security Network started tracking incidents of violence, theft and other criminal acts against churches, an effort believed to be the first ongoing tracking system to systematically record and categorize crimes against Christian churches and organizations.

Nearly 500 incidents in 42 states are documented in "Crimes Against Christian Organizations in the United States." According to the report, burglary accounted for 64 percent of the crimes against churches, a devastating blow for many churches already impacted by losses due to the economic downturn. Arson and general theft were the second and third most common crimes, accounting for 13 percent and 7 percent of the incidents respectively.

"It's not mandatory that churches report these crimes to any governmental agency, which greatly contributes to the lack of data and statistics available on crimes against churches," said Jeffrey Hawkins, executive director of the Christian Security Network.

"While we've attempted to put together a comprehensive report on these crimes, we also understand many churches do not report criminal activities because of their stance on forgiveness or fear of public embarrassment. We estimate the number of burglaries are probably five to six times greater than the number reported," he said.

Of the 472 incidents tracked in the report, 17 were violent acts, including six homicides and the stabbings of a priest and a church employee. In five of the incidents, the police, faulty weaponry, and other factors averted gunmen, preventing more tragic occurrences and greater loss of life.

Internal theft was reported more frequently in the second quarter than in the first, including the case of a church volunteer in Knoxville, Tenn. who stole from fellow worshippers over a period of several years. Losses from all internal theft incidents reported in the first six months of 2009 totaled more than $2.3 million, more per incident than any other crime.

"We frequently receive calls and emails from church members who are worried and frustrated that their church leadership is not more proactive about church security," said Hawkins. "As a society, we protect businesses, schools, banks and other institutions. Now, more than ever, that same level of protection needs to be extended to churches and faith-based organizations."

Incidents reported in the Christian Security Network's "Crimes Against Christian Organizations in the United States" have been compiled from a variety of sources and verified against news media reports and police department data. Cost estimates are based on actual reported losses and averages reported from organizations such as the National Fire Protection Association, in cases of arson.

Minister Greets Franken with Questions About Mockery of Christians

WASHINGTON, July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rev. Rob Schenck was among invited guests at a special reception held in the US Senate Hart Office Building today for newly sworn US Senator Al Franken of Minnesota. Rev. Schenck cheerfully greeted Sen. Franken with a good-natured question about the former comedian's caustic and often insulting jokes about Christians and what they believe.

Rev. Schenck is the president of both the National Clergy Council and it's lay affiliate, Faith and Action, a Christian missionary outreach to elected and appointed officials in Washington, DC.

Earlier in the day a letter from Rev. Schenck to Sen. Franken referencing the former comedian's history of Christian bashing was hand-delivered to his new office. In it, Rev. Schenck gently suggested the Senator begin his tenure with an apology to the millions of Americans who self-identify as Christians.

"Senator, you've really thrown some zingers at Christians over the years. We don't know whether or not to take you seriously," said Rev. Schenck.

"Well, I'm married to a Christian," Sen. Franken responded.

Rev. Schenck is available for further comment. Contact Peggy Nienaber of Faith and Action at 202- 546-8329, ext 104.

Shared Hope International Exposes Child Sex Trafficking in South Florida

Shared Hope International Exposes Child Sex Trafficking in South Florida

MIAMI, July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Shared Hope International will release a groundbreaking report and training video on domestic minor sex trafficking at the upcoming Child Slavery in Our Community Leadership and Training Summit. The Assessment of Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in Broward and Dade Counties, Florida reveals that child victims of sex trafficking are being arrested for prostitution in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. These severely victimized and traumatized children are being misidentified as juvenile delinquents and punished for the crime that is being committed against them. In fact, the report documents more than 500 juveniles were arrested for prostitution in Miami-Dade County from 1998-2008. A lack of training for social service providers and first responders is noted as the primary gap causing the misidentification of child victims of sex trafficking.

"Many service providers currently work with victims of domestic minor sex trafficking, but are not aware of how to properly identify and respond to these children. Misidentification of just one child victim of sex trafficking is too many. However, I believe that the upcoming training we are hosting this Thursday will provide a springboard for response and action as the communities of Broward and Miami-Dade Counties come together to find a solution," said former Congresswoman Linda Smith, President and Founder of Shared Hope International.

On July 9, 2009 law enforcement officers, social service providers, and child advocates from Broward and Miami-Dade counties convene at St. Thomas University School of Law for the Child Slavery in Our Community Leadership and Training Summit. Organized by Shared Hope International, the summit will bring an exclusive focus on Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking - the commercial sexual exploitation of children through prostitution, pornography, and stripping. Shared Hope International will use this event to release groundbreaking video with surveillance footage, survivor interviews, and expert testimony to educate and inform social service providers on how to identify and respond to American children who are commercially sexually exploited.

The new training video INTERVENE: Identifying and Responding to America's Prostituted Children, reveals how American children are recruited and tricked into prostitution in the United States and will assist social service providers in understanding who these victims are and how to better serve them. In the video, child sex trafficking survivor "Maya" who was trafficked in South Florida said this of surviving prostitution as a child:

"I would tell a social worker that she needs to be understanding and when she's talking to the girls to really focus on more or less why they want to be out of the life... If I had someone like Sandy from Kristi House years earlier I could have probably spared me a lot of years of abuse - of all the trauma and negativity."

The summit will feature remarks by Founder and President of Shared Hope International, Linda Smith (U.S. Congress 1994-98), Secretary George Sheldon of the Florida Department of Children and Families, and Andrew Oosterbaan, Chief of the Child Exploitation & Obscenity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Pro-Life Action League Sponsors 2009 'Face the Truth' Tour

Graphic pro-life campaign kicks off July 10 to save babies and their mothers from abortion

CHICAGO July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Pro-life Action League will sponsor the 2009 "Face the Truth" tour beginning this Friday, July 10 and running through Saturday, July 18. Participants and pro-life activists will visit sites throughout Chicagoland holding graphic pictures of unborn and aborted babies while handing out pamphlets to passersby. Their mission is to help Americans better understand the reality of abortion and, in the end, to help save babies.

"The power of signs is undeniable," says Eric Scheidler, the League's executive director. "Last year during the tour, two volunteers were flagged over to a woman in a car who explained that her pregnant teenage daughter decided not to have an abortion after seeing the graphic images. This kind of direct impact is what the tour is all about: saving babies, one life at a time."

The Pro-life Action League encourages all who believe that America must face the reality of abortion to stand up and be counted. The tour will stop at the following locations in the Chicagoland area:

· July 10 -- Joliet, Shorewood

· July 11 -- Niles, Evanston, Lincolnwood

· July 13 -- Downtown Chicago (Kennedy Overpass, Daley Plaza, Union and Ogilvie Stations)

· July 14 -- Downtown Chicago (Buckingham Fountain, Art Institute, Union Station)

· July 15 -- Lake Zurich, Palatine, Arlington Heights

· July 16 -- Bridgeview, Chicago Ridge, Burbank

· July 17 -- Chicago: Garfield Ridge, McKinley Park, Pilsen

· July 18 -- Aurora, Naperville

Nationwide, "Face the Truth" tours are tearing the mask off of "choice" and turning Americans against abortion.

"Yes, our signs are quite graphic," continued Scheidler. "But that's because abortion is ugly. This is the truth. These images ought to disturb us, because the killing of an unborn baby in her mother's womb is a horribly disturbing reality that takes place over 3,400 times per day in our country. These pictures expose the lies of abortion providers like Planned Parenthood and show the human cost of abortion. Once people have faced the truth, they are less likely to become involved in abortion."

Each tour date begins between 9:00 and 9:30 am and continues until approximately 4:30pm. For maps and specific times and locations, please visit www.prolifeaction.org/truth/tours.htm. Note to Missionary Critics -- The Persecution of Christians in Mauritania is a Human Rights Issue

Note to Missionary Critics -- The Persecution of Christians in Mauritania is a Human Rights Issue

OPINION, July 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- Mauritania is a land of striking beauty. With sand dunes lined against the sky, Bedouins riding camels in the countryside, and flying beetles that look like they come straight from the abyss of the Apocalypse; Mauritania is a land of extremes--extreme beauty, extreme hospitality, and lately, extreme religion. As the world mourned the death of Michael Jackson, another man went not so quietly into the night, though largely unnoticed by mainstream media.

On Tuesday, June 23rd 2009, an American Christian worker named Chris Leggett was gunned down by Al Qaeda for the alleged "crime" of trying to convert Muslims to Christianity. To give you an idea of what kind of man Chris Legget was, the 39-year old native of Cleveland, Tennessee not only taught computer science in a low-class neighborhood in the capital city of Nouakchott, he also, according to the Cleveland Daily Banner, worked with the prison systems to train and equip women and young boys to re-enter society, directed a training center providing training in computer skills, sewing, and literacy, and oversaw a micro-loan program which fostered the growth of hundreds of small businesses.

Although the miniscule media coverage has been fairly straightforward, I was saddened to see some of the nasty comments on the Huffington Post when Ahmed Mohammed posted the Associated Press story on the site. Although a few of the comments unequivocally condemned Leggett's murder for what it is, a cowardly act of violence motivated by extremists, far too many seemed to think that Leggett was somehow "asking for it" because of the nature of his work in a Muslim land, as if Chris Leggett somehow deserved to die because of his passion for sharing his faith.

One commenter wrote, "Well, you know, it is their country. You go walking around with arrogant disregard of their laws, you better be prepared to pay the consequences. Non-story." Another commenter cut from the same cloth replied, "I agree. It doesn't take much intelligence for non-military Americans to keep out of these countries. You not only go there at your own risk - you ask for it."

My beef isn't so much with the Huffington Post (who likely has little control over what people comment on the site), but to the people who made those nasty comments (there were some that were far worse) I would like to say feel free to criticize Christian missionaries working in Muslims lands, but I hope you realize that you're criticizing from a position of privilege. Many of you live in countries that allow you to choose your religious beliefs without fear of torture, imprisonment, or death. Hundreds of millions of Muslims live in countries that deny them that right. How do you know that out of the worlds' roughly 1.2 billion Muslims, that some of them don't want to hear another perspective?

Chris Leggett most likely wasn't banging the Bible over anyone's head, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few curious Muslims quietly asked him about his religious beliefs. After all, most Muslims I know-- unlike most Westerners I know--like to discuss religion in every day conversation and enjoy hearing other people's perspectives. If a few of these same Muslims through peaceful dialogue came to the conclusion that Chris's beliefs were correct, where's the crime in that? If Chris Leggett did break Mauritanian law, then it was an unjust law that he broke. Last time I checked, breaking unjust laws is called civil disobedience. Acts of civil disobedience have been crucial to every major advance in human rights.

As a matter of fact, there are hundreds of secret believers in Mauritania right now. Many of them have been abducted, tortured in horrific ways, and forced to name their fellow believers--while the Mauritanian government looks the other way. According to many persecution watchdogs, the persecution of Christians in Mauritania is particularly ferocious, but the same story can be found in countless other countries like Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Syria, and Pakistan.

It's time that the decent people of the world wake up to the fact that roughly a billion people live under governments that don't allow them the freedom to obey their conscience in choosing their religious beliefs. The right to choose one's religion is the most basic of human rights. After all, why should human rights apply to everyone except for Muslims?

Sotomayor Disqualified Herself for the Supreme Court

Sotomayor Disqualified Herself for the Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, July 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee (CWALAC) is sending a letter to U.S. Senators asking them to oppose the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court.

CWALAC President Wendy Wright said, "Sonia Sotomayor has lived the American dream. Rising from a poor childhood to being nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Sotomayor is a testimony to the opportunities and blessings of America. But as we investigate her record, we are struck by her unwillingness to allow others to have the same opportunities as she has had. Her record reveals she lacks the primary characteristic required of a judge: impartiality. She has used her position as a judge to deny equal opportunity to people based on their ethnicity. She worked with organizations that aggressively fought against basic human rights for preborn children and ethical rights to ensure women and girls are not coerced into abortion. After giving her the benefit of the doubt, her record of giving preferences to certain classes of people and denying equal justice to others obliges Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee to oppose her nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. We urge senators to vote against her nomination.

"Sonia Sotomayor has disqualified herself from the U.S. Supreme Court. Her proud insistence on denying equal justice to all is antithetical to our American system. Her unwillingness to provide Constitutional reasoning for her decisions exposes her arrogance and her disrespect for our judicial system and the people whose lives are dramatically impacted by her decisions. She fails even President Obama's controversial 'empathy' test of considering how her decisions 'affect the daily realities of people's lives, whether they can make a living, and care for their families, whether they feel safe in their homes....' Through her work as a judge and in organizations, she has denied people equal opportunity to make a living because of the color of their skin, preborn babies their right to live, women the right not to be exploited by abortionists, and property owners the right of their own property.

"Senators need to set aside party loyalty and do their Constitutional duty to uphold equal justice for all by opposing Sonia Sotomayor's nomination."

Rick Warren is Wrong

Rick Warren is Wrong

MADISON, Wisc., July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Steve McConkey submits the following and is available for comment:

Rick Warren spoke to 8000 Muslim listeners at the annual convention of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) at the Washington Convention Center on July 4th. He said, "Muslims and Christians can work together for the common good without compromising my convictions or your convictions. I am not interested in interfaith dialogue but interfaith projects."

Earlier, a Canada Free Press article said ISNA is an organization with ties to Hamas and other terrorist groups. According to the article, the organization's website has quotations like the following, "The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. 'O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.'"

Rick Warren is putting works first and faith second. According to the Bible in James 2:14-26, works should follow a person's faith. Warren has reversed this and has put works first and faith second.

According to the book of James, true faith is believing the exclusive claims of Christ and not putting faith behind works. Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven according to the Bible. As we share this truth with the world, we should then do good works.

Speaking at interfaith meetings should not be done if a person does not tell the listeners that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven - period. By not doing this, a person is saying that all ways lead to God by works. Sincere Christian faith is never afraid to tell others that Jesus Christ in the only way to heaven.

By Warren's silence on the exclusive claims of Christ, he led his Muslim audience into believing that works will save a person. As Christians, we know that works follow our faith, not the other way around. As Paul preached in Athens, he concluded his message by telling them about the resurrection of Christ with a few coming to the Lord.

How Much is a Woman's Life Worth? In Michigan, Only $10,000

How Much is a Woman's Life Worth? In Michigan, Only $10,000

Operation Rescue declares abortionist Hodari a "Public Menace" and demands meaningful discipline for his reckless conduct.

DETROIT, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Abortionist Alberto Hodari has been fined $10,000 by the State of Michigan for the 2003 abortion death of Regina Johnson. The consent order, which recently became public, was issued on March 4, 2009, over five years after Ms. Johnson's death.

"Now we know what a woman's life is worth in the State of Michigan once she walks into an abortion clinic," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "This paltry fine has reduced Ms. Johnson's life to that of chattel. Animals are bought and sold for more than this."

In exchange for the consent agreement, counts of negligence and incompetence against Hodari were dismissed, leaving only the charge that his conduct constituted a "lack of good moral character."

"Hodari was given a slap on the wrist for his part in Regina Johnson's death, even though he has been involved in the deaths of at least three additional women since 2004," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "The Board's finding that his conduct lacks 'good moral character' is a gross understatement. The man is a public menace. "

Hodari has had other problems with the law. Citizens for a Pro-Life Society discovered illegally dumped private medical records in open dumpsters behind several of Hodari's Detroit-area abortion clinics. He was charged with 12 counts of illegal record dumping, but another agreement allowed him to plead "no contest" to a single count, for which he remains on probation.

More shocking was the discovery of the bodies of aborted babies that had been illegally dumped in the same trash receptacles. Hodari was never charged with any crime related to the dumping of human remains. The babies were later given a proper burial.

One of Hodari's former patients came forward in February, 2009, and told of her traumatic forced abortion when she was 16-years old. She has since filed a formal complaint against Hodari with the health board in Michigan.

But Hodari appears to be so confident that he is above the law that he has given interviews and speeches bragging about his appalling abortion practices. He says that he believes abortionists have a "license to lie."

"In addition to his part in four abortion deaths, Hodari has openly admitted that he purposely places women's lives and health at risk. The fact that he is still allowed to continue his reckless behavior is inexcusable," said Newman. "The Health Department's coddling of Hodari completely unacceptable. We plan to formally demand that they take meaningful disciplinary action before he kills anyone else."

DOCUMENTS: Complaint, Consent Order

Operation Rescue is one of the leading pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation. Operation Rescue recently made headlines when it bought and closed an abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas and has become the voice of the pro-life activist movement in America. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to restore legal personhood to the pre-born and stop abortion in obedience to biblical mandates. Andy Crouch Discusses Round Trip Short-Term Missions Documentary on Interfaith Voices National Radio

Andy Crouch Discusses Round Trip Short-Term Missions Documentary on Interfaith Voices National Radio

CAROL STREAM, Ill., July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Andy Crouch, executive producer of Round Trip, a documentary-style DVD and curriculum about short-term missions, appeared recently on the nationally syndicated public radio program Interfaith Voices to discuss the challenges that face both missions groups and their hosts in creating lasting change through these visits. The interview can be heard here. It's also featured on the Interfaith Voices Facebook Fan Page.

Short-term missions trips are an "exploding phenomenon over the past decade or two," Crouch told interviewer Mike Leard. Almost 2 million Americans go on short-term missions trips each year, sponsored by the more than 40,000 American churches, schools, and other organizations.

Crouch discussed the gap in expectations between the Americans and their hosts--Americans tend to think in terms of what they will do on the trip, and apparently "really like to paint things"; while the host groups are more relational and friendship- oriented. "The host groups often simply want to meet Americans and build relationships with fellow Christians from other countries," Crouch said.

Often these trips are not as life-transforming as everyone involved would like them to be, Crouch said. To avoid the pitfall of short-term missions being little more than "Christian tourism," Crouch said, "it really comes down to seeing these trips as one piece of a larger story." He described the successful model pioneered by the two churches featured in Round Trip, Chapel Hill Bible Church in North Carolina and Mavuno Church in Nairobi, Kenya, which have built a deep and lasting relationship. As demonstrated in the DVD, "if the trip is part of a church or a community's long-term vision for changing the way we relate to our own wealth, power, and opportunity, then I think it can be, in a lasting way, transformational," Crouch said.

Crouch advised that people preparing for a short-term missions trip "step back from assumptions of control, power, and 'can-do spirit,'" and ask who their hosts are and what their expectations are. "You may be surprised," Crouch said, by the emphasis on relationship and connection. He added that Oscar Muriu, senior pastor of Nairobi Chapel, once told him that "Americans always want to paint walls, but we often repaint them after they leave."

Why Can't We have an Honest Debate?

Why Can't We have an Honest Debate?

OPINION, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Keith Mason of Personhood USA submits the following and is available for comment:

Last week was a busy one for those pushing for the civil rights of all human beings. Montana and Colorado both launched renewed efforts to affirm the Personhood rights of all humans.

Part of the reason that these efforts must continue is due to the continued efforts of some journalists, who insist on furthering the "fertilized egg" deception.

The 2008 Personhood campaign stood for the truth that all humans are persons and should be recognized as having equal rights.

This concept is drawn in part from the scientific fact that at the very beginning of our biological development (conception, fertilization, etc) a unique human is present who is completely different from anyone else in the entire world that has ever existed or will exist in the future.

The accurate, more detailed scientific fact has also been known for decades, at least since 1942, when the Carnegie Stages of Early Human Embryonic Development were founded. According to the Carnegie Stages, the new human being begins to exist at first contact of the sperm with the oocyte - that is, immediately, or within nanoseconds. And because of this, the amendment language has been strengthened in Colorado.

The new language has been endorsed by Georgetown University medical ethicist Prof. Dr. Dianne N. Irving.

Last year Abortionist Warren Hern led the charge in the opposition against our campaign. He invented the hoax of the "fertilized egg" stage of human development that the media echoed throughout our entire effort.

This fraudulent science was adopted by some reporters, and by our opposition, which prevented debate of the real issues. Using the term "fertilized egg "when referring to the incredibly awesome beginnings of the lives of human is meant to dehumanize and devalue these little girls and boys, whose gender is already determined by DNA.

There is no stage of human development at which we are "fertilized eggs". Using this term is a mishandling of the facts. This continued mishandling of facts begs the question: Why can't we have an honest debate?

Why can't there be two positions presenting their views accurately, allowing the public make up their minds?

Our position clearly states that all human beings are always persons, no matter their age or condition of dependency ( or health, function, or method of reproduction)from the beginning of their biological development and should be protected by our law.

The opposition's position has never been clearly defined except by individuals like Peter Singer, Professor at Princeton University. Peter Singer has argued for decades that the term "person" should apply only to those "entities" who actively express "rational attributes" (e.g., knowing, willing, choosing, relating to the world around them) and "sentience" (feeling pain and pleasure).

Singer thus argues that apes, gorillas, monkeys, dogs, chickens, pigs, etc., are "persons" because they do actively exercise rational attributes and sentience - while adult human beings such as the comatose, the frail elderly, the mentally retarded, the mentally ill, drug addicts, alcoholics, paraplegics, etc., are not "persons" - and therefore they do not have the same moral and legal rights and protections as real "persons".

Is this the opinion of Planned Parenthood, NARAL, N.O.W., and those who are opposed to affirming the personhood of all humans?

We won't know for sure until the "fertilized egg" fairy- tale ceases to be echoed by several media outlets.

Once the false science used by our opposition is removed, the issue will be clear and both sides will be able to articulate their positions.

The people deserve to hear both sides of the story.

ChinaAid President Bob Fu to Speak to CECC Regarding Persecution of Human Rights Attorneys

ChinaAid President Bob Fu to Speak to CECC Regarding Persecution of Human Rights Attorneys

WASHINGTON, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- On July 10, ChinaAid president Bob Fu will speak on a panel during a roundtable hosted by the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC). Bob Fu will discuss the grievous situation which has developed in the past few weeks, in which more than 18 lawyers who have been active in representing sensitive human rights cases have not been able to renew their law licenses, and at least three law firms have not been allowed to pass inspection. Some lawyers have even been recently arrested, beaten and tortured for practicing normal legal defense work. Bob Fu will also discuss the case of kidnapped Christian human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng who has been missing since February 4, 2009. Gao, along with many of the other attorneys targeted by the government, have been working with ChinaAid's legal defense efforts for religious freedom cases.

The roundtable, entitled "China's Human Rights Lawyers: Current Challenges and Prospects" will be held on Friday, July 10 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Dirksen Senate Office Building, Room 628. A panel of experts will discuss. The panel will focus on China's human rights lawyers and their role in advancing the rule of law in China, the relationship between these lawyers and the Chinese government and the Communist Party and why Chinese authorities recently refused to renew or revoked lawyers' licenses.

Fr. Pavone: Save Lives and Money -- Restore the Dornan Amendment

Fr. Pavone: Save Lives and Money -- Restore the Dornan Amendment

STATEN ISLAND, NY, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, today urged the House Appropriations Committee to approve an amendment to the Financial Services Appropriations Bill that would continue the restriction on taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia.

"Forcing taxpayers to fund abortions is wrong anytime; to do it in the midst of a budget crisis is inconceivable," said Fr. Pavone. "Passing Congressmen Tiahrt and Davis's rider to restore the Dornan Amendment will bring much needed sanity to the appropriations process and save over 1,000 lives a year."

CEAI Versus ACLU: David Versus Goliath

CEAI Versus ACLU: David Versus Goliath

WESTLAKE, Ohio, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian Educators Association International (CEAI) has filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit filed earlier this year by the ACLU against the Santa Rosa County School District in Florida.

"We are David facing a Goliath. The ACLU is engaged in a well-financed, systematic campaign to intimidate Christian educators across the nation. We feel this case is so important that we must take a stand," says Finn Laursen, Executive Director of CEAI.

The ACLU charged that some teachers and administrators in the Florida district were actively endorsing religion. The school district attempted to settle the suit by joining with the ACLU in a consent decree that essentially bans all employees from engaging in prayer or religious activities, whether before, during, or after school hours.

The ACLU-authored consent decree defines prayer, school events, and school officials in such a way that employees who bow their head or fold their hands, pray over meals during lunch, or voice agreement with another in religious discussion at any time on school property or at any school event, can be found in contempt of court. It specifies that when individuals or community groups use school facilities for after- school religious events, no district employee, even on his or her own private time, may participate or communicate agreement in any prayer or religious discourse.

"The consent decree is so broad that it unconstitutionally infringes on the rights of teachers, administrators, and students," says Laursen. "Our particular interest is that it violates the free speech and free exercise rights of CEAI members, both in their capacities as employees of the school board and as private citizens. The order also forces CEAI members to infringe upon the rights of students and others. CEAI will support its members employed by the Santa Rosa County School Board who are opposed to the unconstitutional consent order."

"As a professional association for Christian educators founded in 1953, we have historically encouraged our members by informing them that they do not shed their constitutional rights at the schoolhouse door. We have consistently clarified in print, through technology, and in workshops and seminars across the country what courts have always held, that schools are not religion free zones. We have corrected the misconception that prayer has been banned from public schools and that teachers are limited in their religious expression on their own time."

"If we just sit by and allow constitutional religious freedoms to be bullied out of public schools, we will end up surrendering them all together. We are not willing to sit by and see this happen in Santa Rosa County."

CEAI is represented in the case by Liberty Counsel.

Blind Christian Counselor Now Published Memoir Author

Blind Christian Counselor Now Published Memoir Author

COLUMBIA, SC, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Professional counselor Carmella Broome, blind since birth, recently celebrated the release of her first book. "Carmella's Quest: Taking on College Sight Unseen" chronicles the author's first year at North Greenville, a small Christian college in upstate SC. The book is published by Red Letter Press.

In this straight-forward memoir, Carmella describes efforts to adjust to college life and academics, friendships and romantic relationships, and the challenges of being the only visually impaired student on campus.

Carmella, who works at a Christian counseling center in Lexington SC, says this book has been a work in progress since 1995. "I started it right after my freshman year at NGC," she says. "This book is a great example of the Biblical idea of seed, time, and harvest."

Carmella worked on her book while completing academic and professional goals, including earning a degree from Columbia Bible College and graduate school at the University of South Carolina. "I had to obtain initial counseling licensure and find my first job," she says. "Once my career was on solid footing, I was ready to get back to the book."

In 2007, Carmella heard about Red Letter press run by USC writing instructor and author Bob Lamb. "I contacted Bob and he liked the book," Carmella says. "We began working together, along with several talented design and editing people. 'Carmella's Quest' was finally released in February of this year."

Carmella stays busy introducing her new book to as many potential readers as possible. She is also working to make the book available in recorded formats for those unable to read print. "Carmella's Quest" is not just for those with vision problems, though, according to the author.

"There's something for everyone in this book," she says. "I talk about life's successes and disappointments, relationships, goals, emotions, and other universal themes. Everyone from teenage girls to senior citizens have read it and connected with my story. Its Christian but in no way preachy and is just an honest easy-to-read book."

Wherever she goes to promote "Carmella's Quest," her guide dog, a yellow Labrador named Maggie, will be by Carmella's side. "She's very cute," Carmella says, "I'm sure she'll convince at least a few people to buy a book."

IRS Demands that Coalition for Life of Iowa Swear It Will Not Oppose Planned Parenthood

IRS Demands that Coalition for Life of Iowa Swear It Will Not Oppose Planned Parenthood

Thomas More Society Attorneys Request that IRS Stop the Harassment and Violation of Coalition's Constitutional Rights to Prayer and Legal Protests Outside Planned Parenthood

CHICAGO, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was put on notice that the Thomas More Society in Chicago stands ready to defend the Coalition for Life of Iowa against the prejudicial questioning by the IRS, which has delayed granting tax exemption to the non-profit religious organization. After questioning the "educational" nature of the Coalition's materials, prayer meetings, talks and other Pro-Life activities, the IRS stated that it would not grant tax exemption until the Coalition swore to limit its "picketing" and "protesting" of Planned Parenthood.

In their response, attorneys of the Thomas More Society defending the Coalition, argued that the IRS is in danger of violating the First Amendment and that the request for tax exemption should be promptly granted. The repeated questioning of the Coalition suggests that the IRS may be denying or delaying tax- exempt status to an eligible organization based solely upon its religious affiliation and speech. Many other organizations regularly advocate on both sides of these issues, and they have not been hindered in obtaining or maintaining tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3).

"The IRS not only erroneously forbade the Coalition for Life of Iowa from engaging in 'advocacy' as a section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization; they also never gave any explanation as to why their request was relevant," said Thomas Brejcha, president and chief counsel for the Thomas More Society. "The Coalition has clearly and truthfully stated that all its activities fall in line with IRS guidelines. The IRS is protecting Parenthood and harassing the Coalition for Life of Iowa."

Thomas More attorneys verify in their response that the Coalition for Life of Iowa has never engaged in any disruptive, violent or threatening action. Its activities, such as prayer meetings and events held to educate the public about sanctity of life issues, have been peaceful. As nearly all of its funds go toward education and the "advancement of religious beliefs," which falls under the definition of "charitable" under section 501(c) (3), the Coalition should thus be clearly eligible for immediate tax-exempt status from the IRS.

"By their own regulations, the IRS must take up a position of with respect to the beliefs advocated by an organization," said Brejcha. "If the IRS can discriminate against one non-profit based on its beliefs and religious affiliation, then the IRS could regulate the speech of any other non-profit organization."

COPIES OF THE LETTER TO THE IRS AND ALL SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST

The Thomas More Society is a public interest law firm that counsels and defends those who work to protect innocent human life, defends those who proclaim faith-based values in our nation's public square, and strives to protect the institution of marriage as a union of man and woman formed to beget, bear and nurture new human lives. Polling Shows American People Eager to Hear Pope's Message on Economic Issues

Polling Shows American People Eager to Hear Pope's Message on Economic Issues

Unhappy with ethics of economic decisions, people seek moral direction from the pope

NEW HAVEN, Conn., July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- On the eve of the release of Pope Benedict XVI's new encyclical letter on the economy and globalization, the American people are hungry for his message according to Knights of Columbus - Marist College poll data.

The polling shows that 70% of Americans want to hear the pope talk about world hunger and poverty, 57% want to hear his message on the short- sightedness of greed, and 55% want to hear what he has to say on how Americans can build a society where spiritual values play an important role.

In addition, the poll found that 59% of Americans have a very favorable or favorable view of the pope, only 20% have an unfavorable or very unfavorable view.

"In the area of business, many in our country have fallen ethically ill. The American people know this. Polling shows this," said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. "It is thus no wonder that this survey clearly indicates that the American people are eager to hear from Pope Benedict XVI on key moral issues with economic implications: the shortsightedness of greed and the need to build of a just society. Without attention to these two issues, which the pope will address in his encyclical letter, no technical solution will be able to solve the underlying moral problem that we face in trying to recover from this economic crisis. The American people are looking for a moral compass, and they know that Pope Benedict XVI has one."

The poll of 2078 Americans was conducted the last week of March. It has a margin of error of +/-2.5%.

Incubator Creative Group Hosts Simply Ministry, Business and Marketing Boot Camp

Incubator Creative Group Hosts Simply Ministry, Business and Marketing Boot Camp

Simply Ministry Business and Marketing Boot Camp! October 16-18th, Dallas, Texas.

DALLAS, July 6 /Christian Newswire/ -- What stops you from aggressively pursuing your passion and dream for a Christian music ministry? If you're like most folks, it's the age old problem of money and exposure. Many artists are weak in areas like business, finance and marketing. The intricate and delicate balance needed between the humility of ministry and hard-line of business is difficult to define -- and even harder to maintain. Consequently, critically important stuff is simply ignored or avoided.

The result is a continual problem with a lack of money and a lack of bookings. "Simply Ministry is absolutely THE most important date to book for your ministry this year." Click here to go to Simply Ministry.

But what are the real secrets to opening doors of opportunity and financial support for the early stage of music ministry? Although the music industry has experienced a much needed shake up, most of the indie artist movement is simply attempting to work the exact same industry system on an independent basis. It's still the same business model. It didn't work for the majority of emerging artists when it was run by major corporations. It still won't work when an indie artist is in control (especially without the substantial monetary resources of a major corporation).

The early stage Christian music ministry seems to be immersed in an ocean of countless (and often pointless) Christian music seminars, summits, conferences, and talent contests. Most with all the same rehashed music industry material that simply doesn't work for all but that tiny percentage at the top. What about the rest of us? What about those who simply have a heart to reach people, who are tired of all the hype and commercialization of music, who simply want to follow the dream that God has given them and develop a part-time or full-time career with that ministry? The answer to those questions is Simply Ministry.

Simply Ministry is a concentrated Business and Marketing Boot Camp for Christian musicians and communicators. It is presented by Incubator Creative Group, a 20-year veteran music ministry incubator organization. Attendance at Simply Ministry is restricted to a small and elite group that is sincerely committed to the concept of music as ministry. To those who are also committed to treating their ministry vision as a serious and worthy enterprise. Attendance is by invitation only after acceptance of a preliminary application. Although Simply Ministry is a business and marketing boot camp it has a decidedly "non music industry" focus. If you want to serve God with your musical talents and you don't want the tired old model of the music industry what you want is Simply Ministry.

Given the exclusive and niche focus of Simply Ministry, it will be the launching event for more sustainable music ministries than any other experience in the Christian music industry. Will yours be one of them?

Surviving Shattered Dreams: Ex-Wives of Pastors Offer Insights on How to Cope with Adultery and Abuse

Surviving Shattered Dreams: Ex-Wives of Pastors Offer Insights on How to Cope with Adultery and Abuse

ENUMCLAW, Wash., July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- "I know this isn't good timing, but I'm leaving you and the girls."

When Yvonne Partyka's husband--a pastor-- confessed to adulterous affairs and announced that he wanted out of their marriage, she breathed a frantic prayer, "Oh, God, this can't be happening!"

But it did happen. After 15 years of shared ministry, shared parenting, and shared lives, their marriage ended. "My dream of building memories with our children, growing old together, and teamwork in ministry were shattered," says Partyka.

With a heavy heart, Partyka began second-guessing herself:

· Is there anything I can do to fix our marriage?

· If I'd been a better marriage partner, would things be different?

· How will I make a living?

· How will divorce affect our children?

· What will people say?

In her new book, "Surviving Shattered Dreams," Partyka and co-author Joanne Klinger (also divorced from a pastor), encourage Christians who have experienced infidelity, abuse, betrayal, abandonment, and divorce.

"We believe telling our stories and sharing God's faithfulness to us will comfort others whose lives have been ripped apart by similar issues," says Klinger. "I believe that God does use everything that happens to us for our good and His glory."

Each chapter of "Surviving Shattered Dreams" addresses questions a stunned spouse asks when she discovers she has been betrayed. "We tell a piece of our stories and hope readers will find encouragement in knowing we survived shattered dreams," says Klinger.

She adds, "Facing reality is a necessary step to healing and allows us to anticipate our tomorrows."

Alabama Attorney General Calls Undercover Video of Planned Parenthood Ignoring Statutory Rape 'Extremely Troubling', Seeks Investigation

Alabama Attorney General Calls Undercover Video of Planned Parenthood Ignoring Statutory Rape 'Extremely Troubling', Seeks Investigation

MONTGOMERY, Alabama, July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- Alabama Attorney General Troy King has called a new undercover video released last week showing Planned Parenthood of Alabama apparently breaking state mandatory reporting laws for sexual abuse "extremely troubling" and requested the full recordings. The student-led nonprofit responsible for the recordings, Live Action, immediately sent the full footage, which the Attorney General's office received yesterday.

The video shows a Planned Parenthood staffer, identified as "Tanisha," telling a purportedly 14-year- old girl with a 31-year-old "boyfriend" that Planned Parenthood "does sometimes bend the rules a little bit" when it comes to reporting statutory rape to state authorities. Despite strong parental consent laws in Alabama, "Tanisha" also explains that a person with the "same last name" as the 14-year-old would suffice as a guardian or parent to sign off for the minor's abortion. In an interview last week, King said, "If that tape is an accurate depiction of what's happening, that's very troubling," and "if that video is true and accurate and correct, it's extremely troubling from a legal and moral point of view."

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has also expressed concern about the contents of the video and warned of potential repercussions for Planned Parenthood. Lt. Randy Christian said: "Anyone who sees that should be disturbed by it, and I hope they're disturbed by it. For a 31 year old to have sex with a 14 year old, that is rape in the second degree. I think they are not only morally obligated to report it - the law requires them to report it, and there could be some serious consequences otherwise."

Lila Rose, president of Live Action and the UCLA student who went undercover posing as the 14-year- old in the video, called for a thorough state investigation of Planned Parenthood: "Attorney General King should use this evidence to subpoena records and witness testimony from Planned Parenthood of Alabama and the state Department of Human Resources."

Rose notes that in 2006, three Alabama abortion clinics were placed on probation after an investigation found them operating outside state regulations. King said of the current allegations, "We have knowledge that the law may have been broken and I think we're compelled at that point to see if it has or not."

"Attorney General King is absolutely correct," says Rose. "How many other rapes has this single clinic covered up? When mandatory reporters at Planned Parenthood can 'bend the rules a little bit' in service of their abortion-first mentality and put vulnerable young girls at risk, someone needs to stand up and put a stop to it."

MEDIA ADVISORY, July 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Missions is for every believer. The Great Commission doesn't just apply to a select few--all of us are called to share His truth with others," said Tim Rickel, vice president of Development. "This issue of The Call is designed to spark some thoughts and inspire believers to take big steps of faith."

Through real-life stories of people becoming missions-active, practical how-to articles, and even a section for kids, this issue, titled "So You Want To Be A Missionary," seeks to demonstrate what being involved in missions looks like. Tough issues like missions and race, making a difference on short-- term mission trips, student loans, finding your calling, and much more are addressed.

"Our society is very much focused on self, and reaching outside that mindset can be difficult," said Rickel. "That's why we're here -- to encourage, to listen, and to provide the tools to help you experience what God wants for your life."

Calvin500 Opens in Geneva

Calvin500 Opens in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland, July 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Calvin 500, the international Quincentenary celebration of the 500th anniversary of John Calvin's birth (July 10, 1509), opened today at St. Pierre Cathedral in the old town of Geneva. Beginning with a welcome by Mr. Guillaume Taylor from the St. Pierre Parish Council, approximately 500 worshipers attended the opening convocations, featuring morning worship from Calvin's time and a sermon on Philippians 3:8-12 by Dr. Sinclair Ferguson of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina.

The evening services featured Ugandan Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi, much psalm singing, and a sermon by Dr. Bryan Chapell, President of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.

"Calvin is one of the most important thinkers in history," said Calvin500 Executive Director Rev. David Hall, who also is pastor of Midway Presbyterian Church in America located in Powder Springs, GA. "His ministry and writings left an indelible impression on the modern world, and especially Western culture. It would be hard to find a figure from history more worthy of remembering, if lasting impact for good is the standard."

Throughout the coming week, scholars and ministers will present lectures and sermons in these historic environs to celebrate the contributions of the Genevan reformer. The public is invited.

Correction Officer Celebrates his Spiritual Independence Day

Correction Officer Celebrates his Spiritual Independence Day

MEDIA ADVISORY, July 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- This weekend Independence day will be celebrated by over eleven million people in Ohio. Family and friends will gather together and enjoy this holiday of freedom. However, approximately 50,000 Ohioans may have only an abbreviated celebration because they do not have as much "freedom" as the others.

They are incarcerated.

As the fireworks throughout Northeast Ohio decorate the skies, John Lees will be patrolling one of our correctional facilities. Much like the inmates that John watches over on his patrols during his graveyard shift, he was also once held in a prison of his own.

"I did not think that God would accept me because of my past." John says. His past included a divorce that separated him from his three children and a grudge against God. The guilt and depression that followed these events put him in spiritual bondage. The realization that he may never be able to raise his children was almost unbearable.

One night changed everything.

John decided to pray and seek for the Holy Spirit. His mind was made up that this night he would gain freedom from his past. He had read in the Bible about the Day of Pentecost in the second chapter of Acts. The Holy Spirit was poured out on all the believers and they waited for the promise that Jesus had given. Peter stood up and explained to the multitude the plan of salvation in three easy to understand steps. He told them to repent, be baptized in Jesus name and they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Lees had completed the first two steps years ago and was ready to take the final step. "I always had one foot toward God but the other I was keeping back." The spiritual shackles began to break once John got serious about his prayer life and began fasting by following the spiritual workout in the book, "The 14- Day Spiritual Workout" by Brian H Gaugler.

That night, John received the gift of the Holy Spirit just like the believers on the Day of Pentecost.

Like the day a prisoner is set free into society after years of incarceration, John began to see a whole new world full of opportunities ahead. He looked forward to his daily time spent in prayer and reading the Bible and his marriage has blossomed.

Just a few weeks later he received an unexpected phone call. He was asked to pick up his children for the weekend. It was like a phone call straight from Heaven. Almost three years had past since he was able to spend time with them.

In addition to being thankful for the men and women that sacrificed their lives for our freedom, John will also gives thanks for his spiritual Independence Day.

Team Sarah Statement on Palin Resignation

Team Sarah Founders address Governor Sarah Palin's decision to step down as Governor of Alaska

WASHINGTON, July 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today Team Sarah commented on the announcement that Sarah Palin will step down as Governor of Alaska on July 25, 2009: "Sarah Palin has always been an intensely independent woman -- always true to her faith, her family and call to public service. She has taken vast numbers of Americans to a new place: politics without cynicism. And she has provided women with a new political role model," said Team Sarah Co-Founder Marjorie Dannenfelser. "Her entrance onto the public stage has had an immensely positive effect, drawing in massive numbers of Americans new to the political process. We have every confidence she will have an equal and profound impact in whatever projects she undertakes now."

"Team Sarah members anxiously await Palin's next decision on how she believes she can best serve our nation. Since the 2008 Election, the continual presence of personal attacks on both Governor Palin and her family indicate that she remains a threat to the liberal feminist political establishment," said Team Sarah Co-Founder Jane Abraham. "Despite criticism, Governor Palin's success will endure. Team Sarah's thousands of members remain as engaged as ever on TeamSarah.org. The Governor has inspired millions, and her audience of enthusiastic support will only grow in the future."

Remuda Ranch Programs for Eating and Anxiety Disorders Reports Need for Increasing Awareness of Eating Disorders in Males

Remuda Ranch Programs for Eating and Anxiety Disorders Reports Need for Increasing Awareness of Eating Disorders in Males

PHOENIX, July 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- As many as five to ten million males in the U.S. struggle quietly with an eating disorder because they're ashamed to admit they have the illness, reports Remuda Ranch Programs for Eating and Anxiety Disorders ( www.remudaranch.com). Healthcare professionals, family members and close friends often are unaware of the high-risk behaviors in males that may signify an eating disorder. Therefore, effective intervention is often not available to the male population.

"It is a reality that boys and men do have eating disorders and ignoring the problem may only allow it to get to a life threatening state," said Sam Lample, therapist and assistant clinical director of ReddStone, A Remuda Program for Boys. "Early and proper diagnosis from healthcare providers could be a powerful force in preventing male eating disorders from becoming as common as they have become in females."

Reddstone (www.remudaranch.com/reddstone/index.php) is an inpatient program that treats boys 17 and under who are struggling with anorexia, bulimia and binge- eating disorder. It follows the Remuda Model of Treatment that is based on a bio-psycho-social- spiritual framework. The program doesn't just treat the disorder; it treats the entire patient and offers them the best possible chance for complete and lasting recovery from eating disorders.

Research suggests that at least 1 in 4 pre-teen cases of anorexia are male. There are thousands of males with eating disorders in our society. Historically, it was thought that the ratio of boys to girls with eating disorders was 1:10, but more recent research indicates that it may be closer to 1:3.

"Over the past 10 years, the male body has come under much scrutiny, much like the female body has for decades," adds Lample. "Boys see images in the media and are inundated with the message that they need to look that way or they're inadequate."

At ReddStone, Boys remain in treatment for 60 days -- the minimum amount of time required for eating disorder behaviors to stop and new skills to be acquired. Each boy has a team of professionals, who not only treat the eating disorder, but address co- occurring issues such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse and trauma.

Since 1990, Remuda has provided care to nearly 9,000 patients with eating disorders. Ninety-five percent of Remuda's patients are in good recovery one, five and ten years after leaving the program. They no longer have a diagnosable eating disorder, their personal relationships have improved and they're functioning more effectively in school and work.

About Remuda Ranch Programs for Eating and Anxiety Disorders

Performer Honors Late Pope during Year for Priests

Performer Honors Late Pope during Year for Priests

Jeremy Stanbary Stars in One-Man Drama about Pope John Paul II

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., July 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- Pope Benedict XVI opened the Year for Priests in St. Peter's Square on Friday, June 19. He called for the special year to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, who was famed for his priestly ministry. The year hopes to celebrate the life, mission and vocation of priests, the Church's spiritual fathers.

Jeremy Stanbary has found a unique way to celebrate the Year for Priests. Stanbary, founder and executive director of the Minneapolis-based Epiphany Studio Productions, is performing his one-man play called Lolek. The drama is a stirring portrayal of Karol Wojtyla, the man who later became Pope John Paul II. Known as "Lolek" to his closest friends, Wojtyla was ordained to the priesthood on November 1, 1946 and elected Pope on October 16, 1978.

Stanbary says Lolek is one of the most popular plays in his repertoire. "Lolek looks at the young adulthood of Pope John Paul II, his discernment and calling to the priesthood," said Stanbary. "The play recounts his heroic vocational journey amidst great adversity and ends with a moving depiction of his ordination."

Set in occupied Poland, Lolek is a riveting drama that provides insight into the experiences and influences that formed one of the most intriguing and beloved figures of all time.

Like the late pope an actor and playwright himself, Stanbary has combined his love of acting with his passion for working with youth and his love of the Catholic Faith. He hopes his performances will entertain, educate and inspire audiences. Stanbary has performed at World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany and Sydney, Australia.

Stanbary will be performing Lolek in Chicago from October 1-5. In November, Lolek is being performed for at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin for the Diocese of La Crosse Youth Conference. For more information about these and other performances by Stanbary, please visit www.EpiphanyStudios.com.

To schedule an interview with Stanbary, please contact Christine Schicker with The Maximus Group at 404-610-8871.

If your church, school or organization would like to book Stanbary for a performance of Lolek, please contact Tina Remmert with The Maximus Group at 386-763-9127.

New Book Challenges Wall Street's Asset Allocation Paradigm

After years of managing his family's retirement assets, private investor Peter Casula Jr. divulges his secrets on beating the market.

LOS ANGELES, July 2 /Christian Newswire/ -- Going against the grain in Wall Street can definitely pay off, as Peter Casula Jr. can attest: his portfolios have earned double digit returns since their inception in 2003 and ending in 2007. While the current state of the market has many individuals reluctant to invest, Casula views the upheaval as a window of opportunity, and is publishing his strategies for maintaining a secure investment portfolio in his first book Inter-Economic Market Allocation: How the Average Investor Can Beat the Market.

According to Casula, many fearful investors are unsure of what to do with their finances given the current state of the market. "People are pulling money out of their retirement plans without a good plan of where to put their finances next, so they are defaulting to bonds," states Casula, "The problem, however, isn't the market fundamentally - it's where you put your money in the market."

Casula's strategy stands in contrast to conventional Wall Street advice on asset allocation, which tells investors to allocate their capital between cash, equities and income. This strategy, says Casula, isn't adequate to properly diversify and hedge portfolios in today's global economy, which consists more than just stocks or the real estate market.

"It's almost as if Wall Street thinks the average investor isn't capable of understanding the market," states Casula, whose strategy of asset allocation expands beyond just three market sectors into seven.

In addition to detailing this strategy, Inter-Economic Market Allocation also helps its readers to understand the contemporary market, as well as market psychology. As the result of years of careful research and observation, Casula is well versed in the history of the economy and markets and continues to maintain a watchful eye on market indicators as they relate to economic and market cycles.

Through his understanding of these issues, particularly as they relate to the paradigms that shape investors' decision-making processes, Casula is well- positioned to help his readers answer the most important question of all: what is their mentality towards their finances?

"People need to honestly assess their relationship with financial risk before making any investment," says Casula, who constantly strives to provide the investor with full disclosure. "At the end of the day, the specific allocation mix that will bring you the most satisfaction is dependent on your temperament, not the market."
