Sarah Palin Is Right: It is Time for Women to Stand Up to Say 'Enough'

Sarah Palin Is Right: It is Time for Women to Stand Up to Say 'Enough'

MEDIA ADVISORY, June 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Enough is enough! Women, especially mothers and grandmothers, must fight against what has become almost automatic insult through the media, talk show hosts such as David Letterman, and others. Such insults are so commonplace it is not uncommon for even very young ladies to casually accept them, and sadly, even to refer to each other in degrading feminine terms. Too often, it is women who shoot ourselves in the foot, opposing each other on issues such as modesty, contraception, and abortion.

Sexual slurs are the result of a contraceptive mentality that in reality has only retarded masculine maturity, ironically emasculating men rather than demanding of them virtues that produce good fathers and husbands. Consider near epidemic addiction to pornography among single and married men as an example.

Slurs against femininity are part of the much broader assault on women due to widespread rejection of the prophetic wisdom of Pope Paul VI in his encyclical Humanae Vitae, wherein he predicted the impoverishment of women through contraception and abortion.

As the women of a nation go, so goes the nation is an old adage indicating that it is the power of woman that restores, safeguards, protects and enriches culture.

It is crucial now that women, regardless of religious affiliation, step up to apply feminine genius to uphold the universal wisdom of natural law. It is at the hands of women that either gender can hope to reclaim both self-respect and mutual respect that not only can, but will heal the culture to defeat anti-life forces that threaten at every turn.

The Leaven is a personal Christian charitable non- profit organization, founded by Alton and Juliana Davis in gratitude for healing from contraceptive abortion which they experienced in the early 1970's due to ignorance of emotional and psychological effects of abortifacient contraception. They offer their personal testimony as a powerful force to inform and then to begin the healing process for others who may have used contraception and consequently may experience the need for healing in their marriage and family life.

Contraception hurts women, and in so doing it hurts all of society, every man, woman, and child.

21 Human Rights Attorneys Experience Government Crackdown

21 Human Rights Attorneys Experience Government Crackdown

BEIJING, June 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Chinese government has launched a major crackdown against human rights attorneys, canceling or refusing to renew the licenses of at least 21 attorneys who have challenged the Communist government's abuse of Chinese citizens. Many of the attorneys have been working closely with ChinaAid's legal defense efforts for religious freedom cases.

"These human rights lawyers should be rewarded for their brave active efforts in promoting rule of law and advancing citizens' civil and human rights according to both the international standard and China's own Constitution, " said Bob Fu, president of ChinaAid. "Ironically, the rights of the rights attorneys are now in jeopardy."

Three leading lawyers have called ChinaAid expressing their concern and requesting ChinaAid to solicit the help of the international community. This is an unusual request from human rights attorneys who, in the past, have tried to walk a fine line within the framework of Chinese law. One lawyer told ChinaAid, 'The Chinese government already broke the bottom line by forcing our lawyers to fight to survive to earn a living."

ChinaAid has received reports of human rights attorneys who have been recently kidnapped, beaten, and tortured by officials for practicing normal legal defense work.

Gao Zhisheng is a Christian human rights attorney who was last seen on February 4, being hauled away by Chinese officials. To date, the Chinese government has continually refused to release information regarding Gao's whereabouts or condition. Gao, himself, accurately predicted that every human rights lawyer in China would eventually become a human rights case.

ChinaAid notes that at the same time international pressure is being applied, particularly from the U.S. government, regarding Gao's kidnapping, and the Chinese government has replied with an official denial of knowledge about his situation, behind the scenes, the government has responded with a crackdown on those attorneys following in Gao's steps, who have been interacting with the U.S.

Bob Fu stated, "The crackdown against the human rights attorneys simply shows how much progress in the Chinese government human rights record has been made, since the bloody massacre in Tiananmen Square 20 years ago. We call upon the Chinese authorities to restore the licenses of these 21 attorneys."

Contact the Chinese embassy and urge that they immediately restore the licenses of the attorneys, and end their harassment and abuse:

Taking Faith to Work

Taking Faith to Work

ENUMCLAW, Wash., June 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- As Christians we devote our lives to serving God. The bulk of our days, however, are spent not in prayer, worship, or church, but at work. Devotion to Christ does not erase our need to earn a living. "God created work," Chip Rick's Holiness Today article* points out. "Before the Fall, He gave Adam the job of tending the Garden of Eden and caring for the animals. Work became much more difficult after the Fall, but people continued to work, providing for their families, building cities and empires." Still, as natural and God-given as work is, this huge chunk of our lives continues to be a source of stress and conflict. Can we follow God's call in an ordinary 8-to-5 job? Are faith and work really connected or should we see them as separate aspects of our lives?

To author Richard Bouch, faith and work are very much connected. In his new book "The Faith-Work Window: Why Work Matters to Christianity in a Fallen World" he hopes to show that "personal ministry, mission and spiritual growth all benefit from understanding the faith-work relationship." He sees the nexus between faith and work as inherently interesting and always current yet often overlooked in churches. "Working is one of the biggest parts of life in the fallen world. It has a massive impact on social structures, self-perception, life choices, and on faith itself." Bouch also sees work as a topic that the Gospel takes very seriously.

Bouch calls "The Faith-Work Window" a "semi- academic" book written for thoughtful Christians. With quotes by great Christian thinkers like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martin Luther, and Pope John Paul II he draws from a variety of perspectives. Still he seeks to reach a wide variety of readers, from pastors to lay people showing that it is possible to glorify God in our work life. As one Anglican Priest said, "'The Faith-Work Window' arrives at a time when a comprehensive discussion concerning the integration of work and Christian personhood is long overdue . . . few have plowed its depths as does Dr. Bouch."

Write-to-Publish Names Writer of the Year: Karen Rabbitt Wins Award with Father-Themed Book

MEDIA ADVISORY, June 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- At the recent Christian writing conference, Write-to-Publish, one of the oldest and largest Christian writing conferences, author Karen Rabbitt, M.S.W., was named 2009 Writer of the Year.

The contest judge said Rabbit's memoir, "Trading Fathers, Forgiving Dad, Embracing God," (Winepress, 2009) "truly satisfies the reader's cry, 'Take me there.' She uses uncommonly vivid sensory detail to transport her readers--to scenes from her difficult years of childhood abuse through to her adult life of struggling to relate to both her earthly father and her heavenly Father."

The judge calls the work "uplifting," "beautifully written," and "a valuable resource to help readers-- whether they've had similar backgrounds or not--learn hope, healing, and forgiveness, as she has, by God's grace."

Released in March, the memoir documents the true story of Karen Rabbitt and her journey from brokenness to wholeness. Conceived through the trauma of marital rape, Rabbitt reveals the sexual abuse she suffered as a preschooler at the hands of her father as well as the ripple effect on her childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

Rabbitt, a seasoned psychotherapist, has written for Marriage Partnership and Today's Christian Woman in addition to writing her own story. She writes to share her hard-won wisdom--informed by her professional experience but energized by her own struggle for emotional and spiritual health.

"I wanted to encourage Christians to understand how our own experience with our fathers affects our ability to trust God. I wanted to share my own story so people can see how I worked through anger, depression, and anxiety."

After many years as a psychotherapist at the Urbana, Illinois Christian Counseling Center, Rabbitt has begun Karen Rabbitt Ministries. Reinventing herself in her fifties, she now writes, speaks, and consults. Specializing in retreats for Christian women, her passion is to help others find the healing she has found in the father-heart of God.

A grandmother, Karen lives in Illinois and has been married to Jerry since 1972. She attends The Vineyard Church.

To order a copy call 877-421-7323, or find "Trading Fathers" online at most major online bookstores such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Signed copies can be purchased at www.tradingfathers.com. Caritas Christi Abortion Scandal -- More Questions, No Answers from Boston's Cardinal

Caritas Christi Abortion Scandal -- More Questions, No Answers from Boston's Cardinal

WASHINGTON, June 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- Judie Brown, president of American Life League, issued the following reply to Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley's June 10 statement regarding the Caritas Christi scandal in Boston:

"While Catholics and pro-lifers around the country await a definitive statement from the Archdiocese of Boston indicating that it will not participate in or facilitate abortions or other procedures contrary to Catholic teaching, Cardinal O'Malley's latest statement raises even more questions.

"The archdiocese has acknowledged that an agreement has been reached with Celtic Group, Inc. -- a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Centene Corporation -- for a joint healthcare venture. We know that CeltiCare includes abortion and 'family planning services' in its coverage and has promised to continue this policy after July 1.

"The archdiocese's statement also acknowledged that the agreement requires modification. This is a positive step, but certainly not acceptable as a final answer.
"What is disconcerting is that Cardinal O'Malley and the Boston archdiocese have thus far failed to clearly explain how abortion and 'family planning services' will not occur in Catholic healthcare facilities. The terms of CeltiCare's contract with the state government specifically require coverage for abortions and other 'reproductive health' services. How then could Caritas Christi -- which owns 49 percent of the for-profit CeltiCare -- justify its involvement and direct connection with this business while adhering to the Catholic Church's unequivocal teachings on abortion, contraception and sterilization?

"Even if patients seeking abortions or contraception will be outsourced to a third-party referral service, this does not remove the archdiocese's culpability for involvement in procedures that violate the Church's fundamental moral teachings.

"Most concerning of all is the following quote from Mr. Ralph de la Torre, president of Caritas Christi: 'When a patient seeks such a procedure, Caritas health care professionals will be clear that (a) the hospital does not perform them and (b) the patient must turn to his or her insurance for further guidance'.

"Boston Catholic commentator Carol McKinley responded well to this statement: When the patient 'turns to his or her insurance company,' they are 'turning' to the 'HMO' [of] which the Cardinal and Caritas are co-owners, [CeltiCare]. Therefore, the Cardinal and Caritas are providing these services...

With the exception of removing family planning, abortion, sterilization, embryonic stem cell research and other moral evils covered under the HMO the Cardinal has an ownership interest in, there is no conceivable modification to the arrangement that could ever be in compliance with Catholic moral teaching.

"Incrementally separating the Boston archdiocese from committing an abortion or from the provision of contraception, sterilization and other such 'services' does not negate the fact that, through this agreement, Catholic hospitals will ultimately be referring mothers to abortion and/or contraception facilities such as Planned Parenthood, if the deal between Caritas Christi and CeltiCare remains as it is now written.

"Cardinal O'Malley can stop this today with one word. We beg Cardinal O'Malley and the Boston archdiocese to prevent yet another scandal by providing a clear defense of Catholic moral teaching, rather than a pact driven far more by financial interests than fidelity to the Catholic faith."

Nach Verhaftung: Moslemische Studenten tarnen sich als Menschen christlichen Glaubens

Nach Verhaftung: Moslemische Studenten tarnen sich als Menschen christlichen Glaubens

China: Moslemische Studenten im Gefängnis – Christliche Organisation fordert sofortige Freilassung Moslemischer Studenten - „Glaubens- und Religions-Freiheit muss respektiert werden.“

Von Andreas Klamm

XINJIANG, China. 12. Juni 2009.

Chinese Embassy Responds Regarding Kidnapped Christian Attorney Gao Zhisheng

Chinese Embassy Responds Regarding Kidnapped Christian Attorney Gao Zhisheng

WASHINGTON, June 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong issued a letter regarding kidnapped Christian human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng in response to a March letter from U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan and U.S. Representative Sander Levin, Chairman and Co- Chairman of the Congressional -- Executive Commission on China, in which they required accountability from the Chinese government for Gao's disappearance. The core paragraph in the Ambassador's reply, released by Senator Dorgan's office, states that, according to his inquiry, "Gao received a three-year sentence, with five-years probation, and one-year deprivation of political rights on December 26, 2006 for violation of the Criminal Law. He is currently serving probation. The public security authority has not taken any mandatory measure against him."

ChinaAid founder and president, Bob Fu, responds, "This statement is a blatant attempt to cover up the truth of Gao's kidnapping, and a refusal to release his current whereabouts or condition. If he is currently on probation, where is he? By stating that the public security authority has not taken any mandatory measure against him, the Chinese government is refusing to take responsibility for their abuses against Gao and is violating both China's Constitution and international human rights agreements."

The statement by Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong is consistent with the continual denial from the Chinese government regarding Gao's kidnapping. In a briefing in Beijing in March, Qing Gang, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said, "There's no political persecution or limits on the freedom of the family. We've handled the case in strict accordance with the law." This statement denies the two years Gao Zhisheng's family suffered under house arrest before their escape to the U.S. this past March. "House arrest" meant that the family was cut off from the outside world and multiple officers were assigned to each family member 24 hours a day. Gao's son, Gao Tianyu, was assigned three officers, the least number of officers. Gao's daughter, Gege, 16, was beaten by officers and the entire family endured harassment and abuse.

Gao Zhisheng, now missing 128 days, was kidnapped from his hometown in Shaanxi province early in the morning on February 4 by Chinese officials. Currently, his whereabouts are unknown. Gao has been previously kidnapped and tortured for his pursuit of human rights in China. Gao sent an open letter to the U.S. Congress dated September 12, 2007, and, afterward, was kidnapped and severely tortured by Chinese authorities for more than 50 days. Though authorities threatened Gao with death if he revealed the torture he experienced, Gao chose to release publically the details of his experience. It is believed his current disappearance is a direct result of his refusal to be silent. View a reenactment of Gao's torture experience in 2007 at www.FreeGao.com.

In a recent article by the New York Times, Laura Tischler, a State Department spokeswoman, said that a senior American official discussed the case on March 31 with high-ranking Chinese officials in Beijing, and that State Department officials had raised the case, most recently on April 15, with the Chinese Embassy in Washington. "The United States is deeply concerned about the safety and well-being of well- known human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng," Ms. Tischler said. "We have raised our concerns about Mr. Gao's whereabouts and well-being repeatedly, both in Washington and in Beijing."

In response to inquiries about Mr. Gao's whereabouts from U.S. government officials and the international community, the Chinese government has never released Gao's current location or condition, nor have they acknowledged that he was taken into custody.

Contact your members of Congress and ask that they appeal to the Chinese government to urge accountability for Gao's whereabouts, his immediate release and guarantee his right to be free from arbitrary detention.

Medical Mission to the Dominican Republic by Doctors of Cuban Association Order of Malta- Miami

Medical Mission to the Dominican Republic by Doctors of Cuban Association Order of Malta- Miami

MIAMI, June 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- Medical Mission to the Dominican Republic Organized by Doctors and volunteers of the Cuban Association of the Order of Malta.

Miami, Florida, June 2009. During the weekend of May 28th to June 1st the semiannual medical mission of 2009 to the Hospital Manuel J. Centurion at ILAC Center, Licey al Medio medical facility in the Dominican Republic was undertaken, under the leadership of Doctors Jorge Echenique, MD and José Joaquín Centurión, MD both Knights of Malta and members of the Cuban Association, residing and practicing in South Florida.

As it has been the case for the past several years, 33 participants: twelve doctors, eight nurses, five pharmacists and eight volunteers, plus a Dental Team and their medical supplies, flew with the collaboration of American Airlines to the Dominican Republic from Miami, Florida. Their mission was to give medical assistance to more than 1,000 patients in this poor area, just a few miles outside Santiago de los Caballeros, the second largest city in the country.

The doctors included specialists in cardiology, pediatric medicine, gynecology, urology, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, infectious diseases and internal medicine. They were locally assisted by the Cooperadores de Salud, a group of health workers who did the screening of the patients prior to the visit, and by a local radiologist and other supporting staff at the clinic. Over the four day mission, the doctors saw over 1,000 individual patients resulting in over 2,500 patient visits. The mission distributed free of charge medicines and other medical supplies valued at over $100,000, including a supply for the following six months.

ILAC is a Catholic faith-based group that has a free- standing clinic near Santiago with three operating rooms and five exam rooms. ILAC has a system of health-care workers, called cooperadores, who live in remote villages and perform health screenings. The cooperadores bring surgical candidates to the clinic. It is a collaborative health care and educational organization that exists to promote the integral well- being and spiritual growth of all participants. The small hospital at this facility was made possible with a donation from a local businessman through one of the MD members of the Cuban Association.

The Order of Malta is the third oldest religious order of the Catholic Church, having been established in 1048. Since its humble beginnings in the Holy Land, this Order and its members have dedicated themselves to serving the poor and the sick, particularly in the area of health care. This tradition of service is maintained today by the approximately 12,500 members and over 100,000 volunteers working in over 50 countries. It operates ambulance corps, blood banks, clinics, hospitals, refugee camps, and disaster relief operations. You can learn more about the Order at www.orderofmalta.org.

The Cuban Association of the Order of Malta was established in 1952. It was reorganized in Miami, Florida in 1990, where new activities were established for the poor and the elderly in cooperation with the local Catholic Church.

Presently it has 113 Knights, Dames and Chaplains, including three living in Cuba. Our volunteer doctors have served the San Juan Bosco parish clinic-Our Lady of Philermo- for many years; the Cuban Association also conducts medical missions to the Dominican Republic and to other countries of the Caribbean and Central America. We have been working closely with the Catholic Church in Cuba since 1996, currently funding forty elderly support centers associated with a similar number of catholic parishes throughout the Island; living facilities for retired priests, hospitals and other institutions, including one which serves children suffering from Down's syndrome. We also cooperate with the Embassy of the Order of Malta in Havana with many of our local projects. You can learn more about the Cuban Association at www.ordendemaltacuba.com.

NYCLU Urges Legislators to Consider Civil Rights Concerns as they Weigh HIV Testing

NYCLU Urges Legislators to Consider Civil Rights Concerns as they Weigh HIV Testing

New York City/NYCLU/Jnue 10, 2009-- The New York Civil Liberties Union on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 urged state legislators to reject proposed legislation that would impair efforts to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in New York State.

Three bills currently under consideration purport to increase access to HIV testing. In testimony before the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislative Caucus, the NYCLU argued that these bills would do more harm than good. It advised lawmakers to support a fourth bill that streamlines testing procedures while providing stronger protections for patients’ rights.

“We all want to increase the number of New Yorkers who know their HIV status, but stripping patients of their rights and eliminating critical counseling requirements is a mistake,” NYCLU Executive Director Donna Lieberman said. “A positive test for HIV remains a life-changing event, with consequences unlike those of any other medical test. If this legislation passes there will be no guarantee that people will understand the risks of HIV or even what they’re being tested for.”

The NYCLU opposes the following three bills: A7757/S4484, sponsored by Senator Shirley Huntley and Assemblywoman Annette Robinson; S5660/A7892A, sponsored by Senator Hiram Monserrate and Assemblyman Daryl Towns; and A4016, sponsored by Assemblywoman Nettie Mayersohn.

Each of these bills would eliminate requirements in state public health law that health care providers obtain written consent from people before conducting HIV tests. Under all three of the bills, counseling would no longer be required before performing the test so that people understand what a positive HIV diagnosis means in terms of treatment availability, transmission prevention, and confidentiality and anti-discrimination protections. In addition, under the proposed legislation, those who test negative would never be warned about the dangers of risky behavior so that they know how to avoid becoming infected in the future.

Proponents of eliminating written consent point to the high rates of HIV and lack of knowledge of HIV status in communities of color. They suggest that those who seek to protect patients’ rights are not concerned about those communities hardest hit by the epidemic.

“It is outrageous to suggest that poor people and people of color do not deserve the same kinds of patient's rights as middle class people expect,” said NYCLU Public Policy Counsel Corinne Carey, who testified before the committee. “Patient’s rights—civil rights in medical settings—are just as important, perhaps even more so, to people with few economic resources and communities of color.”

The NYCLU gave its qualified support to a bill sponsored by Senator Thomas Duane and Assemblyman Richard Gottfried (A7610/S3293) that would require written consent for HIV testing, pre-test counseling on the risks and benefits of an HIV test, and post-test counseling regardless of the test result.

While the NYCLU strongly believes in maintaining affirmative consent for HIV testing, the Duane/Gottfried bill simply provides for an “opt-out” option on a general medical consent form. Despite this flaw, the NYCLU believes that the Duane/Gottfried bill is far superior to the other three bills being considered.

Innovative Film Workshop Re-Directs Christian Filmmakers

Innovative Film Workshop Re-Directs Christian Filmmakers

MEDIA ADVISORY, June 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Advent Film Group (AFG), the producer of the bestselling Christian movie, COME WHAT MAY, is offering a unique Two-Day Film Workshop in Purcellville, Virginia, July 18-19, 2009. "Unlike other film programs, our approach is not focused on the filmmaker at all," explains George Escobar, founder of AFG. "We intentionally aim to turn filmmakers' focus away from themselves. We want them centered on learning what God is doing in their community. That's the source for great stories, which God wants told. It's also the means by which the movie can be financed and distributed."

This new model was birthed by the success of recent films such as FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF, and THE WIDOW'S MIGHT, according to Mike Snyder, former Senior VP of Prison Fellowship, who recently joined AFG to lead business affairs and marketing.

"We take our inspiration from the vantage point of where God is working in people's lives," Snyder says. "We do our best to make 'His' stories, not our own. We want to reach audiences whom God has prepared. More importantly, we acknowledge His sovereignty in shaping culture for His glory. He knows which stories are enduring, have lasting values--the stories that matter."

AFG used this new model during the making and release of COME WHAT MAY. This spring AFG also field-tested the film workshop at conferences held across the country, including New Mexico, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Missouri, Virginia, and Florida.

Workshop attendees say: "It's off-the-chart good, more than I hoped for." "The depth and emphasis placed on a personal relationship with God and serving where you are now was amazing and refreshing." "I was impressed that the focus was on the relationship with Christ, not just how to make a movie." "Gave me hope for the future of the film industry."

The workshop is ideal for students and parents considering film as a vocation. Attendees will learn the advantages and disadvantages of film schools. It also covers the elements for making and distributing movies from start-to-finish. This workshop will benefit adults (with film experience or not) looking to switch careers or bolster their media ministry toward feature filmmaking. AFG will reveal their next projects and how attendees can get involved. Registration is limited. Go to: www.adventfilmgroup.com/workshop to register.

Free Abortions in Honor of Tiller Denounced as 'Sick'

Free Abortions in Honor of Tiller Denounced as 'Sick'

PHILADELPHIA, June 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Operation Rescue is appalled to learn that Philadelphia Women's Center gave away free abortions on Tuesday as a means of "honoring" slain late-term abortionist George Tiller.

"There seems to be no comprehension of the value of human life with these people. Killing babies for free to honor someone who was murdered can only be described as sick," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman.

The abortion clinic told the media that an unspecified number of abortions were done free of charge, but there are no further plans to offer additional free abortions.

"There is no such thing as a 'free abortion,'" said Newman. "It costs the life of an innocent baby and puts the woman at risk for increased problems in her life. The loss of each innocent life diminishes us all."

Studies show that women who have received abortions are more at risk for problems such as suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, and mental illness.

"If the people running that abortion clinic really wanted to help women, they would follow the Tiller family's example and close their clinic for good," said Newman.

Choose Life' Specialty License Plate Celebrates its 10th Anniversary: Illinois Still in Battle for Plate Approval; 24 Other States See Profit and Succ

Choose Life' Specialty License Plate Celebrates its 10th Anniversary: Illinois Still in Battle for Plate Approval; 24 Other States See Profit and Success

CHICAGO, June 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, June 10, marks the 10th anniversary of the Choose Life specialty license plate. According to a Gainesville Sun article, the plates are available in 24 states and have generated more than $10 million in user fees nationwide. Six of these states, including Arizona and Missouri, approved their own versions of the plate only this year.

Illinoisans, however, remains unable to buy the Choose Life plate, though the Chicago-based Thomas More Society is working to change this. In April of this year, the Thomas More Society filed a petition asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review and reverse a decision prohibiting the issuance and sale of "Choose Life" specialty license plates in Illinois. The Supreme Court's decision could have a major effect on the availability of these plates in every state in the U.S.

While the odds against the Supreme Court agreeing to hear any given appeal may seem overwhelming (only 1 of every 120 petitions has been granted in recent years), Brejcha and the other Choose Life Illinois lawyers are optimistic.

"If anything, our clients' claim against Illinois is overripe for review," continues Brejcha. "Our petition for review highlights the fact that litigation concerning the 'Choose Life' plates over the last ten years has created a patchwork of conflicting decisions. We will be greatly surprised, as well as disappointed, if the Court fails to grant review."

Background of Illinois "Choose Life" Plates

Over 25,000 Illinois citizens have signed petitions for the "Choose Life" plate, sale proceeds of which were to fund Illinois adoption agencies to help children find lifetime homes with loving families. However, Illinois authorities stymied efforts to get the plate approved, even though scores of other specialty plates, from supporting troops or peace to celebrating college fraternities, were approved routinely.

After the "Choose Life" petitions were submitted, bills introduced in the Illinois General Assembly were diverted to a special subcommittee, chaired by then State Senator Barack Obama, where they died without any hearing.

Update: Three Christian Prisoners and Their Families Suffer in Zhoukou, Henan

HENAN, June 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Shu Wenxiang, Tang Houyong and Xie Zhenqi, three Christians sentenced to one year of re-education through labor, in Zhoukou, Henan, have been suffering greatly along with their families since their arrests more than six months ago.

The three Christian men were first arrested on December 3, 2008, when they gathered in a home with more than 50 house church Christians who are part of the China Gospel Fellowship house church network. All of the Christians were arrested and about 20 Christians were sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention and a 1,000 yuan fine. Shu Wenxiang, Tang Houyong and Xie Zhenqi were sentenced to re-education through labor for "illegal proselytizing" and for organizing an "illegal gathering."

The three Christians have been in No. 3 Re-education through Labor Center of Henan in Xuchang city for more than six months. The prisoners call the labor camp "hell on earth." They must rise at 6 a.m. for running, then have breakfast at 7 a.m. They work making wigs for export from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. with only two 30 minute breaks for lunch and dinner. If the prisoners do not meet their quota, their work day is extended.

Because Shu Wenxiang, Tang Houyong and Xie Zhenqi provided the financial support for their families, while the men are suffering in prison, their families struggle to survive at home.

Tang Houyong has five family members. His wife serves the Lord in a house church in Xinyang city while the rest of his family must live in the countryside. In the past, the family was able to make a living through a tea business, but now they lack even basic food and clothing.

Xie Zhenqi's livelihood was farming. His wife is currently recovering from a heart attack, and his son is in college. Xie Zhenqi's daughter and son-in-law were forced to return to their hometowns in order to help harvest wheat. No one has been able to cultivate his field.

Shu Wenxiang's family also supported themselves through farming, but without Shu Wenxiang at home, they do not have the labor necessary to maintain their fields. Shu Wenxiang's two daughters are caring for their mother, Liu Fengquan, who has recently undergone a hysterectomy, as well as their 79-year- old grandfather.

ChinaAid condemns the Chinese authorities' persecution of the three Christian men in Zhoukou, Henan, and the suffering it has caused their families. ChinaAid strongly urges the authorities to release the three innocent Christians immediately. ChinaAid also encourages the Body of Christ in China and abroad to pray for and support these three Christians and their families, according to Jesus' promise, "Truly I say to you, because you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."

U.S. Präsident Barack Obama ist sicher in Deutschland angekommen

Von Andreas Klamm, Nachrichten-Korrespondent

Washington D.C. / Dresden. 5. Juni 2009.

U.S. President Barack Obama has arrived save in Germany

By Andreas Klamm, news correspondent

Washington D.C. / Dresden. June 5, 2009. The 44th U.S. President Barack Obama (47) has arrived save on Thursday evening in Germany. On Thursday morning he has addressed a high profile speech at the Cairo University in Egypt. He will stay for about 20 hours in Germany and will meet German chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel from the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU).

German chancellor Mrs. Merkel is planning to talk about the peace process in the Middle East, the global financial crisis and other issues with U.S. President Barack Obama for about half an hour.

On Friday Barack Obama is going to visit the former concentration camp of Buchenwald which is now a memorial site for the victims of the German Nazi Holocaust. A relative of U.S. President Barack Obama was in 1945 one of these brave American soldiers which helped to free the victims in 1945 which have been held in the concentration camp by the Nazi regime.

In the city of Dresden people are celebrating the visit of Barack Obama. Many people in Germany do like the new President elect and are happy that he took a chance to visit Germany the third time since he has been elected in November 2008.
.
It is sad that most people in the city of Dresden which do welcome Barack Obama and which do love the U.S. President will have no chance to get in close contact with him or might have the chance to see their favorite U.S. President.

More than 7.000 German Police officers, the German Military, Special Forces, the U.S. Secret Service and fighter airplanes are going to protect the President and will cause to separate the audience of the President from the people which do like him.

Mr. Obama is planning to visit on Friday also the Landstuhl Military Hospital of the U.S. Armed Forces and will continue his journey in Europe to attend the D-Day memorial service in Normandy in France on Saturday.

At the Cairo University on Thursday morning President Obama has delivered a high profile speech to the people of the Muslim world building bridges for new relations.

World Environment Day: DIAC Secretary Andrew Metcalife will plant a tree

World Environment Day: DIAC Secretary Andrew Metcalife will plant a tree

Melbourne/Australia/June 5, 2009. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 by launching the department’s National Environment Policy.

To mark the occasion, DIAC Secretary Andrew Metcalfe will plant a tree at the department’s national office at Belconnen, Canberra.

"The department’s National Environmental Policy is a mark of our commitment to reducing the impact of the department’s operational activities on the environment,” Mr Metcalfe said.

“The policy recognises that all activities, products and services can affect the environment. Through some very simple measures staff can reduce our environmental footprint – and at the same time lessen our operating costs.

“Turning off lights and unused electrical equipment – and making sure you are aware of how the after-hours air-conditioning system works – won’t affect your comfort or productivity, but can make a difference.”

DIAC tracks consistently below the energy targets set by the government and recorded a 1.5 per cent reduction in energy use in 2007-08, despite some significant operational demands and changes.

The department introduced a comprehensive waste management system in 2001 and now manages 52 tonnes of mixed recyclables, 85 tonnes of organic waste and 15 tonnes of cardboard annually.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is Your Planet Needs You – UNite to Combat Climate Change. A different United Nations member state plays host to World Environment Day each year. Australia was the host in 2000; this year, it is Mexico.

“To highlight the launch of the department’s National Environment Policy, we will plant a Eucalyptus melliodora or Yellow Box tree in the forecourt at the national office in Canberra,” Mr Metcalfe said.
