Christian Leader Who Was Arrested in Tiananmen Square During the Summer Olympics to Hold Prayer Service in Front of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, June 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney will leave roses to honor those killed during the Tiananmen Square massacre and also to pray for those who are being brutalized under the current Chinese regime today.

June 4 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre.

Rev. Mahoney will leave the roses outside of the Chinese Embassy on Thursday, June 4, at 11:00 A.M.

The Chinese Embassy is located at 2300 Connecticut Ave. NW

During the 2008 Summer Olympics Rev. Mahoney joined with Christian leaders Brandi Swindell and Michael McMonagle to hold the first ever public faith service in Tiananmen Square to honor the victims of the massacre.

They were dragged out of Tiananmen Square twice, arrested and finally deported.

Rev. Mahoney will also be challenging the Obama Administration to stop ignoring the human rights abuses and religious persecution by the Chinese government against their own people.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states;

"Today we honor all those who were brutally massacred by the Chinese government 20 years ago in Tiananmen Square. Their only crime was speaking out for human rights and democratic freedoms. I will also be praying for the millions in China who today are being persecuted, intimidated and brutalized because of their faith traditions and political beliefs.

"As a nation, we must never forget the price these heroic students paid in the their struggle for freedom and justice. One of the great honors of my 32 years in ministry, was helping organize the first ever public faith service in Tiananmen Square to honor their courage, boldness and faith.

"Sadly, President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton and House Speaker Pelosi have chosen to ignore the cries of not only these students, but all those who are still being brutalized in China. In trips in China, Secretary Clinton and Speaker Pelosi have failed to speak out against the human rights abuses by the Chinese government. To President Obama and these congressional leaders we say shame on you for putting economic interests above social justice and human rights.

"The President promised an Administration dedicated to progressive social justice but he has failed to deliver on those promises. We can only hope and pray that President Obama will lay aside economic concerns and embrace the passion and courage of these students who gave their lives for the cause of freedom and justice."
